Welcome to Rodeo, NM and Portal AZ The Chiricahua Desert Museum is situated 25 miles south of I 10 on NM 80, which runs roughly on the border between Arizona and New Mexico. Much of this area is untouched since the times when the Chiricahua Apache and Geronimo lived here. The diversity of wildlife is unparalleled. Researchers worldwide find their way here on a regular basis to study everything from ants & bats to reptiles & birds, the list is endless. The Chiricahua Desert Museum is a new facility, which opened its doors on April 1st, 2009. It houses a rare collection of reptile-related art, literature, documents, and artifacts as well as a collection of rare live reptiles. It is a very unique experience that is world class. There is a large gift shop filled with unique objects, hiking gear, art, books and jewelry etc. We offer a full line of cold refreshments and freshly brewed coffee everyday. Our entire facility including our restrooms are handicap accessible, spotlessly clean and decorated with original artwork! We also offer group rates and tours. If you need a space for a meeting, luncheon or a PowerPoint presentation we can help with that too. Please contact us at your convenience so we can arrange to accommodate your special group needs. Our normal hours of operation are 10am - 5pm daily; however we are always able to arrange for special hours for private events and group tours. It is our pleasure to welcome you and your group to our little corner of the world; we know you will enjoy it. View pictures of our facility on our Face Book FAN page. |
